New interns at the Expertise Unit Psychology, Technology & Society

The Expertise Unit Psychology, Technology & Society has 4 new members in 2022. They briefly introduces themselves here.

Hi, I am Fien Buelens. I am doing an internship at the psychology, technology and society expertise unit from January to July. Last year, I graduated as Master in Clinical Psychology for Adults at KU Leuven. During my final internship in CGG VAGGA, my interest in the research component behind clinical practice grew. That is why I am following the abridged Master Theory and Research at KU Leuven and why I am doing my internship at the expertise unit of Thomas More. For me, the internship is a perfect match between my two main interests: improving mental health and applying research. I also find it interesting to involve technology in both things. I am curious to discover new possibilities of technology to improve mental health. Beyond that, I hope to be able to contribute to the research field myself.

Hey, I’m Bono Van Mol and I’m doing an 8-week internship in February and March at the expertise uinit. After graduating from high school, I obtained my professional bachelor Electronics-ICT at Thomas More (Sint-Katelijne Waver) with Embedded Hardware as a specialization. The following year I followed a 1 year audio production course at Syntra (Antwerp) before I started my professional bachelor in Applied Psychology, which I am now in my 2nd year. I have always been curious about how things work and for me this internship is a perfect combination of my previous knowledge and experience with technology and my current interest in psychology and mental wellbeing. I am curious about how research is done in practice, what impact technology has on us people and how we can use it in a positive way.

Hi, I’m Sanne Klein and I’m doing my final internship from March to June at the expertisecell: Psychology, Technology and Society. I come from the Netherlands where I completed my studies in ‘Graphic Design’. After my studies, I wasn’t sure which direction I wanted to go in and I decided to take two gap years. During these two years I worked and travelled through Asia for a couple of months. I also had to decide which study I wanted to do and then I decided on applied psychology, which is something I have always found interesting. Besides, I thought it would be nice to live in a different city. That combination made me decide to study applied psychology in Antwerp. During the study, I noticed that I find research very interesting and I am curious about how technology can be used to influence our mental health.

Hi, I’m Ben Genné and I’m doing an internship at the expertise unit from March to June. I have already come into contact with the research field as part of the exploratory internship within my study in Applied Psychology. I found this a very pleasant experience and therefore I did not hesitate to continue in this field during my final internship. I am someone who is very curious but above all eager to learn. I am therefore very curious about the interaction between technological applications and mental health. Discovering how things work in practice seems a real challenge to me. I therefore hope to be able to make an important contribution to the current projects.
